Incoming, full-time freshmen at UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County will now be guaranteed a $2,000 scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year, thanks to the Friends of the Campus, the organization that has long raised and dispersed scholarship funds for Baraboo Sauk County students. The BaraBOOST scholarship was initiated in 2021 at the amount of $1,000. The Friends of the Campus recently announced the doubling of this support to $2,000 for the next academic year.

In addition to increasing the BaraBOOST amount, the Friends of the Campus voted to guarantee a minimum of $1,000 in scholarship dollars for all continuing students who apply for scholarships.

“The Friends of the Campus are committed to doing whatever we can to help the UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County campus remain a place where students from the region can afford to get an outstanding college education," said Rebecca Oettinger, president of the Friends of the Campus. "We are dipping into reserves for the next school year to increase scholarships. I’m delighted to see the increased support and interest from the community. We all want our campus to thrive.”

Oettinger added that the upcoming 31st annual Grape and Gourmet Gala will provide another opportunity to support scholarships for Baraboo Sauk County students. Hosted by the Friends of the Campus, the event, which will be held Thursday, April 25, is expecting 120 guests – the most since before COVID-19. Oettinger says she expects to raise more than $25,000 in support at the event. Tickets are still available through April 18. Those who cannot attend but who would like to contribute to the BaraBOOST fund can do so at http://www.friendsofthecampus.org.

“I want to thank the Friends of the Campus for increasing the BaraBOOST scholarship for this upcoming academic year,” said Chancellor Tammy Evetovich. “This will have a tremendous impact on our students. Not only do scholarships give our students financial relief, but they allow for more opportunities for engagement and boost students’ confidence.”

More than 200 students have received the BaraBOOST scholarship since its creation, totaling $138,000 in support. For more information about how to receive the BaraBOOST scholarship, visit www.uwplatt.edu/baraboo/scholarships.
